Dancing

I decided to start Courtney in dance class this year and the reason I say 'I' is because Scott is still on the fence about it. Mostly he's just not big on paying the monthly fee but I know when he goes to her recital he'll think it's all worth it.

Court is too young to start preschool so I figured why not put her in dance class? Luckily I found a studio that would accept Courtney (she is only 2 years old) and even better the class is in the morning. Her cousin Aiva and neighborhood friend Raini are also in her class so she has a lot of fun.

So far she is loving every second of it. The first day she was super nervous and cried a little but since then she loves it and is always asking me when she can go 'dance'.

Here is Court all ready to go to her first day of Dance Class, as you can see she was super excited.

Here she is at her first dance class, you can see the stress in her eyes. (This picture is off my phone so I apologize how bad it is) Don't all the little girls look so adorable.

Transient Synovitis ???

(Scott is going to be so embarrassed when he sees how long this post is, he hates when I write a lot and share feelings. My sincerest apologies to my hubby and to y'all. Seriously, no hard feelings if you don't read it. I wanted to record our crazy week in detail for the journal purpose of my blog but I didn't realize until the end how much I actually wrote. Again, no hard feelings if you don't read it but if you do decide to read it, good luck!)

Has anyone ever heard of Transient Synovitis before? We never had until last week and what a week it was. Sunday night we put our happy and healthy little boy to sleep. Around two in the morning Jake woke up crying and complaining that his right leg was hurting. We first thought it was a charlie horse but stretching or massaging wasn't helping it. We then thought it could be growing pains but again the massaging wasn't helping. Two hours later Jake finally fell asleep exhausted. He woke up a few hours later still crying and complaining about his leg hurting. We weren't too worried as we still thought they could be growing pains just really, really bad ones.

I sent Scott to work figuring I had it under control. After a call to my Mom & sister for advice, I jumped on the Internet to look up growing pains and I read that they usually don't last into the morning. Jake then started crying even harder and his pain started getting worse. I discovered that he now couldn't even sit up, let alone walk. I called the doctor and they said to bring him in right away. I was excited with this good news until I looked at Jake and thought "how am I going to get him to the doctors"? As soon as I tried picking him up he started screaming out in pain. I can't even describe how awful it was watching Jake be in so much pain, I felt so helpless.

The only thing I could think to do at that moment was pray. Jake and I prayed pleading that we would somehow be able get him to the Doctors. We asked for the pain to be taken away or have some kind of relief from the pain, anything... we desperately needed help. As soon as we were done praying the first thought that came to my head was 'go get help'. (I was unable to reach Scott at work) I ran to my neighbor Amy's house who is my dear friend and a nurse. She was in the shower so I took off to the next house and thankfully my other good friend Megan was home and get this, she is also a nurse. Megan answered the door, she saw my scared, tear streaked face and automatically took action. She came back to my house and picked Jake up (while keeping him completely straight) and laid him in my van. He cried but not as hard as he had when I had tried. I'm so grateful she did this as it's something I just couldn't do myself. By this time Amy came out of her house and offered to watch Courtney. The two of them calmed me down, gave me advice on what tests to request and basically just helped me breath. I honestly have the most amazing neighbors.

On the way to the Doctors I realized that Jake had become calmer, he even expressed his worry about what we would do if the police saw that he wasn't in a car seat. Too cute. Getting out of the van and into the Doctors was quite the ordeal but we did it. Can you believe that I actually had to ask someone to open the door for me??

We were at the doctors for over two hours, taking x-rays, blood work etc... Jake held up really well, he was in a lot of pain but was really brave. I'm so proud of him. While waiting forever for the Doctor to come tell us what was wrong I had convinced myself that the reason it was taking so long was that the Doctor was preparing a way to come in and tell me that Jake had bone cancer or a bone disease. You know how the mind starts thinking the worst. Crazy!!! Thankfully it was none of those, instead, the Doctor came in and said "Transient Synovitis". What the????

The doctor explained that Transient Synovitis is inflammation of one or more joints that typically lasts 1 to 3 weeks. It can affect any joint, but most commonly occurs in the hip. So in Layman terms, Jake had a virus in his hip bone. I guess this occurs in kids, it's not contagious and they aren't even sure why kids get it in the first place. I was told to give him an anti-inflammatory medicine and to watch him closely as we didn't want it to become sepsis and turn into a bacterial infection. Jake was ordered to stay off his feet for at least 3 days.

On the way home we stopped at Walmart to get the medicine (I left Jake in the car w/ my cell phone talking to his Dad) and we stopped at Mcdonalds for a treat. Jake was in pretty good spirits as we were running these errands. As soon as I carried Jake into the house and laid him on the bed his pain went from a pain tolerance of a 4 to a 10 instantly. He started crying really hard and kept telling me he wanted me to stop it. Thankfully we were prescribed pain medicine which worked super fast but I have to say I was really shocked seeing how fast the pain came back. I realized at that moment how truly blessed we were as our prayers had been answered. Jake and I have had many talks since then about our small miracle. Although it was an awful, awful experience, in the end I'm thankful that my little Jake got to see and feel that his Heavenly Father knows him and truly loves him. What an amazing experience for him to have at such a young age.

Get this, Jake's doctor called me twice to see how Jake was doing. I knew he seemed worried about Jake but for him to actually call me to find out how he was doing was shocking and then for him to call again the next day. I have never, ever had a Doctor follow up with me or my kids. Crazy eh!!! Just had to mention that.

Oh, and one more thing.. When Jake was getting x-rays taken the technician noticed that he had lost two teeth. Jake informed her that he had swallowed his bottom tooth (true story). She asked how long ago this had happened and when he told her last week she took an x-ray of his stomach and we actually saw his tooth sitting in his stomach. How crazy is that. Jake thought it was pretty awesome!!!

So, that's our crazy story. I'm happy to report that Jake is completely healed. You wouldn't even think anything had happened to him except for his constant complaining of all the fun he missed at school (he missed a total of 4 days).

It's just so crazy how fast things can happen in life. To think that my son went to bed healthy and woke up unable to walk is so unbelievable. As a mother I have to tell you that my testimony, appreciation and love for our Savior has grown so much. I've always known and never doubted that the Savior is and always will be there for me but knowing he will always be there for my children is one of the greatest gifts I could possibly receive. When their was absolutely nothing I could do to help Jake, I can't even describe to you the comfort it gave me knowing that I could put it in the Lord's hands and he would take care of my son.

Because we just celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving I feel I need to express all that I'm thankful for. I'm thankful for my husband and for the priesthood which he holds. I'm thankful for my two healthy and beautiful children whom I absolutely love and adore. I'm thankful for our families and all of their love and support. I'm thankful for my friends who always seem to be there when I need them and I guess what I'm trying to say is... I'm thankful for my life!
